This type of charity trek is becoming extremely popular, lots of people want to take on a tough challenge whilst raising money for charity and the 3 Peaks Challenge is a great way to do this. We look more into what this challenge involves, how you can sign up and what options you have.

There are three types of events, one involves three mountains in Yorkshire, another is three mountains in Wales and the last means you walk a mountain in England, Wales and Scotland. They are very different charity treks, and all of them are very challenging but you will need to make sure you know which one to enter

Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge

The Yorkshire 3 Peaks is 24 miles in length and is located in the Yorkshire Dales National Park covering the mountains of Pen-y-Ghent (694 meters), Whernside (736 meters) and Ingleborough (723 meters). Usually, people will aim to walk all three mountains within 12 hours

3 Peaks Challenge

The other 3 Peaks Challenge is often referred to as the National Three Peaks Challenge as it consists of 3 mountains across the UK – Snowdon in Wales (1085m), Scafell Pike in England (978m) and Ben Nevis in Scotland (1345m). These three mountains are part of the challenge as they are the tallest in each country. The idea is to walk all 3 mountains within a 24 hour time period meaning you have to walk up one in the dark.

Three Peaks Challenge Wales

The third and less well-known challenge is called the Three Peaks Challenge Wales. This one covers Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan. Again due to the height and distance between them, people usually try and complete this within 24 hours
